Has anyone gotten pregnant within a year after Gastric bypass surgery?
I have.. Been diagnosed with unexplained infertility back in the early 90's. I was overweight most of my life.. The "roller coaster" journey .. I turned 37 in July and conceived in July, My hubby and I weren't trying, we came to "terms" along time ago that our obituary would be very short(no children to speak of) I had read after my surgery that some women's reproductive systems ,restart so to speak, I'm guessing from rapid weightloss.. I had the surgery in November of 08 and by March I had lost most of the weight over 100lbs.. I was 150 lbs when I met my Hubby when I was 15 and I hardly ever got my period through the years. Until 2 months after the surgery it came regular. We are so excited and thankful! I was wondering if anyone else had a simular experience..

I had gastric bypass surgery in April of 2008, and had dropped over half of my body weight since then. My husband and I conceived in January and now we are expecting our first. Before having surgery we got pregnant three times, and I miscarried each one of them, the doctor said that it was due to my body weight and the condition that my body was in. If I ever wanted to experience children of my own I would have to lose weight and keep it off. As most people know some people just cannot lose the weight and keep it off.
I went in for the monthly check-ups after surgery and every time my doctor told me, if you are not on birth control you need to be using some sort of contraception, and I figured hey you said it won't happen and I didn't think that I lost enough weight to even conceive. But, I was sadly mistaken because now here I am pregnant, and I couldn't be happier.
It is something that I am definately happy about, and glad I went through all the aches and pains of surgery, because I am now so blessed with being able to experience motherhood and pregnancy. So yes it is very possible. Also, it is not so much that you were infertile, it was that your body was not healthy enough to sustain another life, and you could have gotten pregnant but you most likely would have miscarried as your body would have rejected it because it could not sustain the extra weight. Once you loose the weight your body turns on a switch and lets you know that it is able to sustain another life force, and bam before you know it your prego!
